Rockdale County Civil Docket Searches
The Georgia Courts e-access directory covers re:SearchGA. It lists Rockdale Superior and State Court as participants. You will need an account. The service sets its own search fields, document prices, and result columns, so enter only information you have verified and follow the prompts in your session. An exact court-issued case number beats a guessed prefix every time.
Remote search is just one channel. The Rockdale County Clerk of Superior and State Courts keeps both Superior and State civil files. Its Civil Division offers a public terminal in Room 203 for searching and printing. You can also mail a copy request. Visit the counter, call the office, or use GSCCCA eCertification. Magistrate civil files are different. They stay with Magistrate Court, which posts no public name or case-number search.
- Read the summons, pleading, or notice to identify Superior, State, or Magistrate Court.
- Use re:SearchGA for participating Superior or State records, or contact Magistrate for its own file.
- Match the exact case number, caption, case type, filing date, and court before opening a result.
- Review the dated register for service, motions, orders, settings, judgment, transfer, or appeal.
- Use the terminal, counter, mail, or eCertification route when the docket index does not supply the needed paper.
Rockdale Civil Terminal in Room 203
The Clerk Civil Division names the courthouse public terminal. It is a place to search and print civil records. When account-based online access blocks you, this terminal is the best fallback. The same goes if a document image is missing. Find the office at 922 Court Street, Room 203, Conyers, Georgia 30012.
Bring party names, the exact court, an approximate filing date, and the court-issued case number. Search fields are not published, so ask staff how to handle name variants or a partial number. Self-service copies from the terminal cost $0.50 per page. Staff-assisted, certified, and exemplified copies follow different fee schedules. A terminal print is fine for reading, but ask whether your purpose needs certification.
See the official Rockdale Civil Division terminal and copy information before you go.

The official division page shows a direct public channel, available even when the statewide search is out of reach.
Civil Dockets: What They Show
A Rockdale County civil docket opens with a header and caption. From there it lists events in date order. Expect a complaint or petition near the start. Service attempts, answers, motions, and orders follow. Later entries may show settings, judgment, satisfaction, transfer, or appeal. The index does not promise that every filed paper exists as a public image. Domestic-relations and protective-order matters may hold redacted or restricted material.
| Case header | Court, court-issued case number, filing date, judge, civil type, and current status. |
|---|---|
| Caption | Plaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent, shown in the formal case style. |
| Opening paper | Complaint, petition, divorce, adoption, tort, contract, or another initiating filing. |
| Service | Summons, sheriff return, waiver, or other filed proof of service or attempted service. |
| Motion and order stream | Motions, responses, notices, rulings, hearings, and scheduling orders. |
| Result and money | Judgment, dismissal, default, settlement, transfer, appeal, costs, satisfaction, or garnishment. |
These are expected record groups drawn from court practice and the clerk's own material, not labels from a live portal view. Check any abbreviation against the record itself before relying on it.
Filed Is Not Granted in Rockdale
A "filed" line means the clerk accepted a paper into the record. It does not mean the judge agreed. A motion stays a request until a later order resolves it. A return of service only records service or an attempt. It never shows liability by itself. A hearing setting is a scheduled event. It is not a judgment.
Read forward: After locating a complaint or motion, follow later entries for a response, hearing, signed order, dismissal, judgment, or reset. The last visible line may still be procedural.
A default judgment is a formal result entered after a party fails to respond or defend as required. Silence in an incomplete online index is not default. Pull the judgment or ask the clerk to confirm the disposition.
What Cases Fill the Civil Docket
Rockdale's Clerk Civil Division handles adoption, contracts and accounts, dispossessory, divorce, garnishments, legitimation, name changes, and tort. Superior Court adds title to land, equity, declaratory judgments, habeas corpus, mandamus, quo warranto, prohibition, and other civil actions within its authority. Which docket path a case takes depends on both subject and jurisdiction.
| Civil matter | Likely Rockdale route | Search caution |
|---|---|---|
| Divorce, adoption, land title, or equity | Superior Court | Family or adoption material may have protected portions |
| Contracts, accounts, and tort claims | Superior or State Court based on jurisdiction | Confirm the court on the opening paper |
| Small claim or garnishment up to $15,000 | Magistrate Court | No public online case search was located |
| Dispossessory or eviction | Often Magistrate Court | A later appeal can create a higher-court file |
| Family violence filing | Superior Court process | Access and redaction may be case-specific |
Conyers Municipal Court is mainly a city traffic and ordinance route. Treat it as a dead end for a general Rockdale County civil docket search.
Rockdale Magistrate Civil Dockets
Rockdale Magistrate Court hears civil claims and garnishments up to $15,000. Its civil docket also covers dispossessory cases and distress warrants. Abandoned motor-vehicle liens belong there too. It keeps its own files. Stop at the Superior and State Clerk and you may miss the originating civil record.
The official Magistrate calendar page posts a Thursday 1:00 p.m. civil calendar. That page shows a schedule category, not a searchable case register. Confirm any particular setting with Magistrate Court, and use its clerk for the case file. If a Magistrate decision is appealed, keep the original case number. Keep the new higher-court file reference too. The two dockets document different stages.
- Dispossessory
- Georgia's court process for recovering possession of rented property.
- Garnishment
- A legal process directed at money or property held by a third party.
- Distress warrant
- A limited statutory remedy handled within Magistrate jurisdiction.
- Appeal file
- A later record created when review moves the matter to another court.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
A civil setting on the Rockdale County court docket should list a date, time, courtroom, judge, and event type. That applies when the clerk enters those fields. The event could be a motion, a status conference, a trial, or something else. A scheduling order may set several deadlines at once. A later continuance or reset simply replaces the old setting. The suit itself goes on.
Check the newest event with the court that holds the case. Rockdale Magistrate posts category schedules. Superior and State Court dates tend to show up in the case record or through the clerk. For a fuller picture, the Rockdale County court schedule walks through how to check settings and changes across every court. If two dates clash as a hearing nears, ask court staff rather than trusting an old page.
Settlements deserve care too. A deal can resolve the dispute. Yet the docket may still show dismissal papers, an order, or satisfaction afterward. Read the final filed entry. The court's result is what got filed, not what the parties agreed to in the hallway.
Rockdale Civil Filing and Copy Costs
A general civil filing in Rockdale Superior or State Court costs $208 under the clerk's current fee schedule. Divorce and adoption carry the same $208 charge. Family violence petitions show no filing fee at all. Remember that these are filing costs only, so the total price of a case can run higher.
| Service | Published amount |
|---|---|
| General civil, divorce, or adoption filing | $208 |
| Family violence filing | No fee shown |
| Self-service copy | $0.50 per page |
| Copy with assistance | $1 per page |
| Certified or exemplified copy | $2.50 first page, then $0.50 each later page |
Money questions come down to the schedule itself. The official Rockdale Clerk fee schedule lists the costs for filing and copies, and it should be your first stop before you file or order anything. Extra lines for electronic delivery, fax, subpoenas, writs, appeals, and service may apply. O.C.G.A. ยง 15-6-77 is the fee authority the schedule rests on.
Rockdale Civil eCertification Route
GSCCCA eCertification is a different tool for a different job. It handles regular and certified Court and Real Estate records. The system takes requests around the clock. Actual delivery still depends on your account setup, clerk processing, payment, and whether the receiving agency will accept that form of certification.
Choose this route when you need the civil document itself, not just a docket line. Pin down the exact judgment, order, or filing first. Get the Rockdale court file number too. For anything urgent or unusual, confirm the route with the Civil Division before you commit. Note that a JustFOIA submission to county administration will not substitute for this judicial-copy process.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Civil court records tend to be open. But the court, the clerk, statute, court rule, and any sealing order all control who actually sees them. Georgia courts sit apart from executive agencies here. The Georgia Attorney General's FAQ explains that Superior, State, Probate, and Magistrate Courts are not covered by the Georgia Open Records Act the way agencies are. So send a court-file request to the clerk that holds it. That clerk is the right office, not Rockdale County's administrative JustFOIA portal.
Electronic records: Uniform Superior Court Rule 36.16 gives an electronic filing the same force and public-access status as a traditional filing, but bars electronic filing for material that must be sealed, filed in camera, or otherwise restricted. Rule 36.17 limits sensitive identifiers.
Adoption, temporary protective-order, and domestic-relations files often carry protected sections. Even then, the case header may stay public in the Rockdale County docket. Redaction is not the same as sealing, so the distinction matters. Ask the clerk which portion is public, and whether a redacted copy can be issued. Ask also what order or rule limits access, and what fee applies.
An empty result in a case lookup is not always a privacy block. The same screen appears when you search the wrong court, when an older file sits in off-site storage, or when a case was transferred. Access can simply fail too.
